I'm Still Alive.
My how time flies. Since becoming the father of Clementine Schneider aka Miss Chunkie Pie, my attentions have been diverted somewhat from the non-profit world of indie rock to the more pressing concerns of keeping her housed, fed, and constantly gazed upon. But old habits die hard and I'm hoping to be able to record some newly finished efforts this summer as well as to be playing out soon with a new, crack band.

Forever Debts Available on iTunes.
Apple has deemed FD worthy of inclusion in its digital library. For the fast and light version of Forever Debts go here.

Songs from Forever Debts & Escape Velocity on MTV's Real World and Cheyenne
A few friends have mentioned hearing songs from FD and EV accompanying break-ups, hook-ups, and psychotic breakdowns on Real World Key West and soundtracking Cheyenne's rise to stardom on her self-titled show. All I can say is when I wrote those songs, I couldn't have hoped they'd land in a better place.

Music for Robots Lends a Hand

New Record Available: Forever Debts
With additional production from Mike Musmanno (aka indie rock's Timbaland) whose handiwork may be found on the new Lily's and Earl Greyhound records, Forever Debts delivers 12 hot, semi-laid back slabs of intelligent, sexy, sour, rocking pop. Reaching beyond the traditional singer/songwriter canon of influences (Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith), "Forever Debts" widens the vocabulary, sourcing inspiration from such disparate wells as Greg Kihn, The Stone Roses, Can, Chavez, Eno, and 20/20. Lyrically, "Forever Debts" deftly explores themes of money, debt, family, and work. All this over a bed of swirling, angular, and inventive hooks. A sophisticated and moving pop experience that is built to last. Come and get it:
01 ---> the crimes of sivwitz (mp3)
02 ---> forever debts
03 ---> osmosis (mp3)
04 ---> down in the running (mp3)
05 ---> betting man
06 ---> keep it light
07 ---> occupation
08 ---> aisle
09 ---> freeze
10 ---> animal
11 ---> awake
12 ---> imaginary numbers

New Record Wrapped Up, July Show
So, it took about three times longer than expected, though not as long as "Escape Velocity". Finally mastering the new record this week with Dave McNair at Unity Mastering. Thanks so much to Oscar Rodriguez for all his help, Sam Kassirer and Liam Hurley for their talents, Dave Snyder for his generosity at Jarvis Studios, and special thanks to Mike Musmanno (Lilys, Icarus Line) and Neil Perry (Swervedriver, Ric Ocasek) for their help with mixing when I was spinning my wheels. Looking forward to getting out and playing again. Speaking of which: July 6 @ the Pussycat Lounge, 8pm. BYOB (Bring Your Own Boa). With Nakatomi Plaza.

Currently In Studio Recording Follow-Up to Escape Velocity
Thanks to everyone for the kind inquiries about shows, updates, etc. I'm currently splitting my time between working and recording the follow-up to Escape Velocity at Jarvis Studios and at my meagre but trusted home set-up. I'm a bit obsessive so it may take a bit. Hoping to be finished by early February when I'll be bugging people to check out the album and come out to shows. Thanks to everyone for the kind words of motivation (ie. "update your fucking site" and "what the hell have you been doing?").

Pitchfork Gives Escape Velocity High Marks
Indie music site Pitchforkmedia.com is not known for pulling punches. I've been lucky enough to save my tears for another day. Read Joe Tangari's generous review on their site or in the reviews section.

"Live @ Pete's" Video
The May 19 show at Pete's Candy store was deftly committed to DV, Super 8 and Protools by the combined talents of Martha B. Almy and Dave Snyder last wednesday, May 19. Hopefully, the magic of editing will be able to cover what actually went down on stage and we'll have something presentable by mid summer. Stay tuned.

Nominated for Worst Hair in Rock
In addition to its lukewarm review of Escape Velocity, The Valley Advocate of Springfield doesn't much like my "do". My wounded "do" would direct you to kinder words from no ripcord, Logo Magazine, and CMJ; as well as a picture of my spiritual guide and fashion compass, Columbian soccer great and Colorado Radips midfielder, Carlos Valderrama.

By the Time I Get to Phoenix
Don't ever go to Phoenix. No offense. Luckily having just got our instruments inside for sound check, Oscar and I returned to the truck to find the window broken and the rest of our possessions (all our clothes, peanut chews, etc.) stolen. Angry and hurt, we soldiered on, finally discovering the value of forgiveness from the "promoter" of our show in San Luis Obispo. Though the show was empty, we learned it was for good reason. Our promoter, Dave, is a friend and devotee of the "Highest Incarnate Angel" who lives, strangely enough, in Hemet, CA! Who knew? Instead of wasting time with the petty wordly task of telling a single soul about our show, Dave was rightly communing inwardly the "one who is made of light". Despite these and other strange occurrences, the tour was great. Thanks to the kind people of Medford, San Francisco, Davis, Tucson, LA, Redding, Olympia, Tijuana, and Riverside for being so supportive and letting us sleep on their floors. Also, thanks again to my parents for letting us borrow their truck. Sorry about the back window...

Just Added New 2004 Dates
Solo, duo and full band dates for the East Coast, California and the UK.
Next up: Jammin' Java in DC with Oscar Rodriguez (Jan 7), a week in England solo acoustic, and back to Boston and New York City with the band.

November Tour
We hit the road this month for a short Northeast jaunt, snaking through a good portion of the original thirteen colonies. Dan Green, Sam Kassirer, Oscar Rodriguez and Max Goldman have agreed to brave the journey with me. We're very psyched. Come catch us in your town!
